Under
the tutelage of NYSMF’s highly accomplished chamber music
faculty, this program provides students with unique opportunities
to experience the subtleties, challenges, and rewards of this
demanding branch of music.
Chamber
Music (Piano & Strings)
Discover
the wonders of collaboration with your friends and other
instruments! Open
to students based on their placement audition (individual skills,
sight-reading) and availability, an average of four to six
ensembles varying from piano trios to quintets will be assigned
at least
one movement from the standard chamber music repertoire, and
will meet for daily rehearsals and coaching per session.
This intense
course will result in a public performance at the end of each
session. Prior experience is desired but not required.
Ensembles
NYSMF
offers students numerous ensembles made up of individual
and mixed instruments, in which students will
greatly improve their individual and ensemble playing skills
while rehearsing and performing challenging repertoire.
All students
will have the opportunity to participate.
All
ensembles perform in concert at various times during the final
weekend
of each session. Available ensembles include
the following,

Bass
• Brass
• Cello
Double Reed
• Clarinet
• Flute
Piano
• Percussion • String
Vocal
• Guitar • Woodwind
Types
and sizes of ensembles vary for different instruments. String
players may also be placed in string quartets, brass players
may be placed in brass quintets, and so on.
All
students may participate in chamber ensembles while enrolled
in the festival.
