Chamber
Music
Under the tutelage of NYSMF’s highly accomplished chamber music faculty, this program provides students with
unique opportunities to experience the subtleties, challenges, and
rewards of this demanding branch of music.

Chamber Music (Piano & Strings)
Discover the wonders of collaboration with your friends and other instruments!
Open to students based on their placement audition (individual skills,
sight-reading) and availability, an average of four to six ensembles
varying from piano trios to quintets will be assigned at least one
movement from the standard chamber music repertoire, and will meet
for daily rehearsals and coaching per session. This intense course
will result in a public performance at the end of each session. Prior
experience is desired but not required.

Ensembles
NYSMF offers students numerous ensembles made up of individual and mixed instruments,
in which students will greatly improve their individual and ensemble
playing skills while rehearsing and performing challenging repertoire.
All students will have the opportunity to participate.
All ensembles perform in concert at various times during the final weekend of
each session. Available ensembles include the following, among many
others:
Bass • Brass • Cello
Double Reed • Clarinet • Flute
Piano • Percussion • String
Vocal • Guitar • Woodwind
Types and sizes of ensembles vary for different instruments. String players may
also be placed in string quartets, brass players may be placed in
brass quintets, and so on.
All students may participate in chamber ensembles while enrolled in the festival.
