NYSMF Special Programs

Writing & Acting Program

NYSMF's Resident Actor, Keisuke Hoashi, travels all the way from Hollywood, CA every summer to head this immensely popular program. What makes it so special is that it gives students the opportunity to create their own original works in Musical Theatre and Film - in just two weeks.

The three courses offered in this program are open to all students, and run all three sessions of the Festival.

  • Original Musical Theatre Workshop & Production
  • Practical Acting
  • Filmmaking Workshop

All original student works are presented at the end of each two-week session. Please click here for a full description of the NYSMF Writing & Acting Program.

NYSMF/Yamaha Silent Electric Strings

NYSMF was first honored in 2006 with the loan of five unique instruments: the Yamaha Silent Electric Strings.

Our students took full advantage of these unusual instruments, not only experimenting with them in practice rooms, but showcasing them in live jazz performances, and also composing and premiering original music!

Yamaha has pledged its support every year since with an identical loan, providing an exciting new option for even the most traditional of string players.

Composition Program

NYSMF Resident Composer Daniel Ott heads a marvelous program for all young student composers.

The program runs all six weeks of the festival, with performances of original student works at the end of every two-week session.

Tuition for this program is $250 per session. This is in addition all all regular NYSMF tuition and fees.
