ALEX GREENBAUM

Alex Greenbaum began playing the cello at age three. In the past few years he has performed as soloist or collaborator at venues throughout New York City, including Bargemusic, Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Tonic, The Cutting Room, Brooklyn Lyceum and at Lincoln Center.
As a member of The Knights chamber orchestra Alex has toured Dresden (opening the 2009 Musikfestpiele with Dawn Upshaw), Dublin and the Canary Islands (as part of Osvaldo Golijov’s Pasión Según San Marcos), and has recorded two albums for Sony Classical. |
An avid chamber musician, Alex is a member of the Tarab Cello Ensemble, and has appeared as soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra and Brandywine Chamber Orchestra. An active performer in Mexico, Alex was a member of the Orquesta Sinfonica Sinaloa de las Artes, based in the state of Sinaloa, and returned there this season as soloist with the Tarab Cello Ensemble in the Feria de las Artes 2008. He has appeared at the Northern Lights Music Festival in Ajijic, Jalisco as well.
A dedicated advocate for new music, Alex has performed at Brooklyn’s MATA Festival for young composers since 2006, and has also appeared with the FLUX Quartet, where’s Ilva? and the Wet Ink Ensemble. He has attended the Eastman School of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music, the University of Miami and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, where he has also taught chamber music. His teachers have included Steven Doane, Marcy Rosen, Ross Harbaugh and Andre Emelianoff. Alex plays a cello crafted in 2006 by Michele Ashley. He lives in Brooklyn. |
