Testimonials

Nothing speaks more eloquently than the words of our students and of their parents. Please read through this sampling of NYSMF TESTIMONIALS to get a genuine feel of how important a summer at NYSMF can be to a young musician - and to their entire family!

From Student Andrew S.:

"I'm in my school's jazz band and let me tell you, i don't even think i would be in the jazz band if it wasn't for NYSMF, Bob Sabin, and Jon Irabogen. it really helped so much."
From parent Judith K.:

"I can't  begin to express how much it means for Kyla and for us to be part of this wonderful musical family.  You can count on us to continue to do all we can to ensure it's continued success. Bravo to Jungeun, to Dan, Keisuke, D. Barstow, Colleen, and your NYSMF's wonderful staff, faculty and students for a fabulous dream come true!"
From parent Holly B.:

"Paul had a wonderful two weeks there--so many new and rich experiences for him. Thanks to all of you for making it possible!"
From parent Lawrence K.:

"Cassie had a wonderful time at the first 2 week session of NYSMF. In fact, she loved it so much that she is already gathering the material to apply to become a NYSMF camp counselor for next summer."
From student Lauren F:

"I cant believe it has been two weeks since I left. My time there was the most amazing time of my life - I learned so much and made so many friends ... This experience has truly allowed me to feel confident as I set sail for my music career adventure. Before camp I was quite wary of the waters but now I know that I have the skills I need to back me up and keep me afloat. Thanks, Keisuke, for always encouraging me (especially with the writing). I never knew that I was capable of actually writing something that people would actually like! Tell everyone I really miss them and wish I could be there."
From Parent John F:

"Let me take this opportunity to thank you all for mentoring Isaac this summer.  From what he has told us during telephone conversations, his time
at NYSMF has been unparalleled: in piano, jazz bass, and viola he feels he's made enormous strides.  The combination of classes, performances, private lessons, and master classes has been enormously helpful to him, and we're all very grateful to you and the whole community.  He's already committed to
returning next summer, possibly for all three sessions of NYSMF."

From Parent David S.:

"I wanted to let you know how much Ethan enjoyed his 4 weeks at NYSMF this summer for so many reasons.

"What a wonderful variety of musical studies to have under one roof! What a great concert hall to have for the camp performances….What an incredible experience for Ethan, full of exciting “firsts,” most of all being able to perform a concerto together with an orchestra. Ethan also was thrilled to participate in a master class with violinist Aaron Rosand and to hear Rosand perform the bruch concerto. He also enjoyed participating in a master class with Ida Kavafian and playing in a quartet that performed the Death and the Maiden by Schubert. Ethan also enjoyed the Jazz music performed at the camp, and went to hear NYSMF visiting artist Dick Oatts at the Village Vanguard in NY two days after leaving camp. And so on.

"It is hard to believe that these wonderful experiences took place within just 4 weeks of the summer. Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful environment. Ethan already is looking forward to returning next year."

From parent Irv G.:

"My son, Alex (French horn) had a great time! He’s so looking forward to next summer.
I’m more than happy to talk with parents of prospective students as well as host an open house for prospective students in Northern NJ.
Let me know how I can help. Thanks again for everything!"

From parent Dawn S.:

"Thank you for a wonderful summer experience for Lauren. She is looking forward to coming back next year."
From parent Vinnie L.:

"We would like to thank you for an enjoyable camp experience. My daughter was in the first session. After meeting the people Sabrina was ready to stay for a second session. I just wanted to mention two counselors that were more than helpful during our stay Angela and Naomi. We first met Angela at sign up. When others were unsure of how to best help, Angela led by example. She jumped in, started carrying bags, giving answers and tips on the upcoming two weeks. Angela is exceptional! She is friendly, personable and professional. If I was to run a camp I would like a person with these qualities representing me. Naomi is also a great find. Being away from home for the first time for 14 yr old can be trying. Sabrina was not feeling well and needed some help. She found Naomi to be sympathetic and caring. Naomi stayed with Sabrina, taking her to the nurse and seeing that she got back to her room and resting comfortably. All this happened at 4:30 Am (I saw your schedule and sleep was at a premium.) Naomi was sweet and caring. Again, as a parent, having kids like this involved puts our minds at ease. When camp time rolls around next summer we will be looking forward to seeing you Angela and Naomi again.

"PS We were one of the first to sign in and when we left at about 3:30 PM, Angela was still out there helping carry luggage."
