NYSMF Financial Aid & Scholarships
The New York Summer Music Festival offers a limited number of scholarships and
financial aid packages based on talent and financial need. An audition
recording is required for consideration. You may download a NYSMF Financial Aid/Scholarship Application
forms here, and please fax or scan/email it to application@nysmf.org.
Students and parents are encouraged to seek financial assistance from local sources,
such as school music organizations; county/state/national music
education organizations; youth orchestras and bands; music clubs;
service
clubs (i.w. Rotary, Kiwanis, etc.); businesses; local churches; foundations;
etc.
NYSMF currently offers several scholarship opportunities, as follows:
The NYSMF Local Scholarship Student Program
NYSMF offers special scholarships for Oneonta-area music students. Known as the Local Scholarship Student Program, it is a fantastic opportunity for local young musicians to gain all the advantages of being a NYSMF student while still ilving at home! To apply, simply include a note in your application (http://www.nysmf.org/apply) that you wish to take advantage of the NYSMF Local Scholarship Program, and we will make all the necessary adjustments.
Here are the benefits, requirements, and restrictions for students taking advantage of our Local Scholarship Student Program:
Benefits
- Local Scholarship Students will receive discounted tuition rates for 2, 4, or 6 weeks, and are exempt from the standard "Activity Fee". (All other regular fees apply.)
- 2 weeks (1 session): $1,400
- 4 weeks (2 sessions): $2,600
- 6 weeks (3 sessions): $3,600
- Local Scholarship Students may attend all daily NYSMF programs, classes, ensembles, evening concerts, recitals, and musical events.
- Local Scholarship Students may eat two meals each day in the NYSMF dining facilities. (You may choose not to participate in the campus meal plan to receive an additional discount.)
Responsibilities
- Local Scholarship Students must arrange for their own pickup and dropoff each day. This includes any time they are on campus, or at a NYSMF-sponsored activity.
- Local Scholarship Students must "Check in" at All-NYSMF Choir at each morning, and "Check out" as required with the NYSMF Main Office, or with their assigned staff member.
Limitations
- Local Scholarship Students may not live on-campus in the NYSMF residence halls. "Sleepovers" in the NYSMF residence halls are strictly (and legally!) forbidden, due to NYS Health and insurance Regulations.
- Local Scholarship Students may not participate in NYSMF recreational evening activities unless they pay the "Activity Fee" of $50/session. Local Scholarship Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation home after any evening activity.

NYSMF
+ the NY Pops Orchestra +
the Salute to Music Education Program
NYSMF is very proud to be working with the legendary New York Pops Orchestra and the amazing Salute to Music Program, to provide amazing opportunities to the best young musicians in New
York City to attend the challenging, exciting NYSMF program each
summer.
Dr. Sherrie Maricle, Education Director for NYSMF, and
the wonderful staff of the NY Pops coordinate the Martin Ormandy Scholarship program (named after the orchestra’s founding principal cellist), in which outstanding young musicians are give
the chance to win one of five full two-week scholarships to the New
York Summer Music Festival.
The five young people, all from New York City public schools, are selected after
having shown exceptional musical growth during the academic year
as participants in the orchestra’s Salute to Music program, which provides free instrumental lessons to more than a hundred music
students throughout the city’s five boroughs.
In May, more than two dozen students from Salute to Music are selected to perform
with The New York Pops at the orchestra’s gala concert. From this group, five are chosen as winners of the prestigious
Martin Ormandy Scholarship.
We would like to thank the entire Education Department of the NY Pops and all
the talented members of the Salute to Music program for their support!
