Facilities
SUNY Oneonta

NYSMF is hosted by the Music Department of the State University of New York, College at Oneonta.

SUNY Oneonta is located in Oneonta, New York, situated in the beautiful foothills of the Catskill Mountains. Founded in 1889, SUNY Oneonta is renowned for its exceptional facilities and campus.

Fine Arts Center

The Fine Arts Center is SUNY Oneonta's hub of music study. Facilities include:

  • Over 40 Steinway and Baldwin grand and studio pianos
  • Yamaha Disklavier and Clavinova
  • 16-station digital keyboard/theory/MIDI lab
  • Individual practice rooms
  • Teaching studios
  • Rehearsal rooms for large and small ensembles
  • Modern classrooms with excellent sound systems
  • Music industry library/listening/computer center

As of 2011, the Fine Arts Center has completed extensive renovations. This has resulted in more and larger practice rooms, ensemble rehearsal rooms, classrooms, and who knows, maybe even a bunch more clean restrooms and doors that don't mysteriously close and lock themselves, sealing you inside until a janitor takes pity on you and lets you out!

Oneonta State Music Department's digital recording studio provides state-of-the-art equipment for all recording activities. The department's computing facilities are integrated with students' own workstations in the Extended Music Laboratory.

Concerts in the Fine Arts Building are presented in Goodrich Theatre and the FAB Outdoor Amphitheatre.

Practice Space

Students may use practice facilities in the Fine Arts Center andthe dozens of dedicated practice rooms provided in each of the festival dormitories. Students may also practice in their own dorm rooms.

Residence Halls

The experience of working and living together in residence halls with counselors and fellow students lays the foundation for a productive and fulfilling summer.

EQUIPMENT. All Residence Halls have a recreational lounge that may be equipped with the following gear:

  • Pool table
  • Ping pong table
  • Fooseball table
  • Vending machines
  • Television

They also have kitchettes; multiple study lounges; and laundry facilities.

INTERNET ACCESS. Each dorm in the festival housing facilities features a wireless internet "hot spot" to which students may connect for free. We also provide some shared computers for all students to use in those hot spot lounges.

BEDROOMS. Each bedroom in the Festival housing facilities is designed for two people to live comfortably, with a bed, desk, dresser, and closet. All NYSMF students will have a roommate. Each room also has an active local telephone port that you may plug your own phone into, as well as a live cable TV tap.

FLOOR ASSIGNMENTS. Males and females reside in separate buildings and are assigned to floors according to their age and grade level.

COUNSELORS. Each floor is supervised by at least three counseling staff members.

SUCO residence halls may include kitchens, study lounges, laundry facilities, computer labs, and recreational lounges that may include a pool table, ping pong table, fooseball table, vending machines, and a television.

Healthcare Services

NYSMF is staffed by RNs, in accordance with New York State Health Department regulations. Daily arrangements are made for students who need to take medication on a regular basis (NYS Health regulations dictate no student may keep any prescription or over-the-counter OTC medications in their rooms). Students will be sent to A.O. Fox Hospital for severe injuries and/or emergencies.

Dining Halls

The Oneonta dining services at SUCO offer a wide variety of food at every meal and, with advance notice, are able to accommodate most diets at no additional charge.
