Facilities
SUNY Oneonta

NYSMF is hosted by the Music Department of the State University of New York, College at Oneonta.

SUNY Oneonta is located in the beautiful foothills of the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. Founded in 1889, SUNY Oneonta is renowned for its exceptional facilities and campus.

Hunt Union

2009. NYSMF students will be utilizing the excellent facilities in the Hunt Union building for this summer.

Hunt Union Ballroom. The primary performing venue for NYSMF 2009.

Hunt Union Cafeteria. NYSMF students will enjoy their meals in this large facility, with a view of the lake and fountain just outside the wall of windows.

SUNY Oneonta Bookstore

ATM. Located just inside the cafeteria.

Mailbox. Outgoing mail may be dropped off here.

Classrooms and rehearsal rooms, including the Red Dragon Theatre, the Waterfront Room, and the Butternut Room will be available at various times to NYSMF participants.

Blodgett Hall

2009. Blodgett Hall will serve as the primary music teaching building for summer 2009. The following will be located there:

NYSMF Main Office. Blodgett #114

Rehearsal Rooms. Many ensembles will be rehearsing in the many spaces on the top three floors of Blodgett, primarily in the large lounges and common areas in the dozens of suites.

Teaching Studions. NYSMF faculty will utilize the multitude of rooms for private lesson instruction and coaching.

Practice Rooms. When not being used for ensemble rehearsals or private lesson instruction, students may use any open room to practice.

Filmmaking Lab. Blodgett #122.

Chase Gymnasium

2009. Will serve as NYSMF's primary rehearsal space for large performing ensembles, including the All-NYSMF Choir, the orchestras, the band and wind ensemble, and more. Students are requested to exercise care on the floor, which can be slippery and scratches easily.

Fine Arts Center

LIMITED ACCESS IN 2009 DUE TO CONSTRUCTION. The Fine Arts Center is SUNY Oneonta's hub of music study. Facilities include:

  • Over 40 Steinway and Baldwin grand and studio pianos
  • Yamaha Disklavier and Clavinova
  • 16-station digital keyboard/theory/MIDI lab
  • Individual practice rooms
  • Teaching studios
  • Rehearsal rooms for large and small ensembles
  • Modern classrooms with excellent sound systems
  • Music industry library/listening/computer center

Oneonta State Music Department's digital recording studio provides state-of-the-art equipment for all recording activities. The department's computing facilities are integrated with students' own workstations in the Extended Music Laboratory.

Concerts in the Fine Arts Building are presented in Goodrich Theatre and the FAB Outdoor Amphitheatre.

Practice Space

Students may use practice facilities in the Fine Arts Center and Blodgett Hall, our main music building in 2009, in addition to dedicated practice rooms provided in each of the festival dormitories. Students may also practice in their own dorm rooms.

Residence Halls

The experience of working and living together in residence halls with counselors and fellow students lays the foundation for a productive and fulfilling summer.

EQUIPMENT. All Residence Halls have a recreational lounge that may be equipped with the following gear:

  • Pool table
  • Ping pong table
  • Fooseball table
  • Vending machines
  • Television

They also have four fully functional kitchens; a quiet study lounge; and laundry facilities.

INTERNET ACCESS. Each dorm in the festival housing facilities features a wireless internet "hot spot" to which students may connect for free. We also provide some shared computers for all students to use in those hot spot lounges.

BEDROOMS. Each bedroom in the Festival housing facilities is designed for two people to live comfortably, with a bed, desk, dresser, and closet. All NYSMF students will have a roommate. Each room also has an active local telephone port that you may plug your own phone into, as well as a live cable TV tap.

FLOOR ASSIGNMENTS. Males and females reside in separate buildings and are assigned to floors according to their age and grade level.

COUNSELORS. Each floor is supervised by at least three counseling staff members.

SUCO residence halls may include kitchens, study lounges, laundry facilities, computer labs, and recreational lounges that may include a pool table, ping pong table, fooseball table, vending machines, and a television.

Healthcare Services

NYSMF is staffed by RNs, in accordance with New York State Health Department regulations. Daily arrangements are made for students who need to take medication on a regular basis (NYS Health regulations dictate no student may keep any prescription or over-the-counter OTC medications in their rooms). Students will be sent to A.O. Fox Hospital for severe injuries and/or emergencies.
