NYSMF
is hosted by the Music Department of the State
University of New York, College at Oneonta.
SUNY
Oneonta is located in the beautiful foothills of the Catskill
Mountains in upstate New York. Founded in 1889, SUNY Oneonta
is renowned for its exceptional facilities and campus.
Hunt Union
2009. NYSMF students will be utilizing the excellent facilities in the Hunt Union building for this summer.
Hunt Union Ballroom. The primary performing venue for NYSMF 2009.
Hunt Union Cafeteria. NYSMF students will enjoy their meals in this large facility, with a view of the lake and fountain just outside the wall of windows.
SUNY Oneonta Bookstore
ATM. Located just inside the cafeteria.
Mailbox. Outgoing mail may be dropped off here.
Classrooms and rehearsal rooms, including the Red Dragon Theatre, the Waterfront Room, and the Butternut Room will be available at various times to NYSMF participants.
Blodgett Hall
2009. Blodgett Hall will serve as the primary music teaching building for summer 2009. The following will be located there:
NYSMF Main Office. Blodgett #114
Rehearsal Rooms. Many ensembles will be rehearsing in the many spaces on the top three floors of Blodgett, primarily in the large lounges and common areas in the dozens of suites.
Teaching Studions. NYSMF faculty will utilize the multitude of rooms for private lesson instruction and coaching.
Practice Rooms. When not being used for ensemble rehearsals or private lesson instruction, students may use any open room to practice.
Filmmaking Lab. Blodgett #122.
Chase Gymnasium
2009. Will serve as NYSMF's primary rehearsal space for large performing ensembles, including the All-NYSMF Choir, the orchestras, the band and wind ensemble, and more. Students are requested to exercise care on the floor, which can be slippery and scratches easily.
Fine
Arts Center
LIMITED ACCESS IN 2009 DUE TO CONSTRUCTION. The
Fine Arts Center is SUNY Oneonta's hub of music study. Facilities include:

Oneonta
State Music Department's digital recording studio provides state-of-the-art
equipment for all recording activities.
The
department's computing facilities are integrated with students'
own workstations in the Extended Music Laboratory.
Concerts
in the Fine Arts Building are presented in Goodrich Theatre
and the FAB Outdoor Amphitheatre.
Practice
Space
Students may use practice facilities in the Fine Arts
Center and Blodgett Hall, our main music building in 2009, in addition to dedicated practice rooms provided
in each
of the festival dormitories. Students may also practice
in their
own
dorm rooms.
Residence
Halls
The
experience of working and living together in residence halls
with counselors and fellow students lays the foundation for a
productive and fulfilling summer.
EQUIPMENT. All
Residence Halls have a recreational lounge that may be equipped
with the following gear:

- Vending
machines
- Television
They
also have four fully functional kitchens; a quiet study lounge;
and laundry facilities.
INTERNET
ACCESS. Each dorm in the festival housing facilities features a wireless internet "hot spot" to which students may connect for free. We also provide some shared computers for all students to use in those hot spot lounges.
BEDROOMS. Each
bedroom in the Festival housing facilities is designed for two people to live comfortably, with a bed, desk, dresser, and closet. All NYSMF students will have a roommate. Each room also has an active local telephone port that you may plug your own phone into, as well as a live cable TV tap.
FLOOR
ASSIGNMENTS. Males and females reside in separate
buildings and are assigned to floors according to their age
and grade level.
COUNSELORS. Each
floor is supervised by at least three counseling staff members.
SUCO
residence halls may include kitchens, study lounges, laundry
facilities, computer labs, and recreational lounges that may
include a pool table, ping pong table, fooseball table, vending
machines, and a television.
Healthcare
Services
NYSMF
is staffed by RNs, in accordance with New York State Health Department
regulations. Daily arrangements
are made
for students
who need to take medication on a regular
basis (NYS Health regulations dictate no student may keep any
prescription
or over-the-counter
OTC medications in their rooms). Students
will be sent to A.O. Fox Hospital for severe injuries and/or
emergencies.
Dining
Halls
The
Oneonta dining services at SUCO offer a wide variety of food
at every meal and,
with advance notice, are
able to accommodate
most diets at no additional charge.
