International Flute Institute

Session III (July 25 - August 7, 2010)


NYSMF is proud to introduce one of the most challenging, advanced, and exciting instrumental programs ever to be offered at any summer festival -- the NYSMF INTERNATIONAL FLUTE INSTITUTE.

Offered exclusively for only two weeks (Session III: Jul 26-Aug 8, 2009) at the New York Summer Music Festival, the International Flute Institute is a brand-new program open to truly outstanding flute students from all around the world.

It is a chance of a lifetime to work 1-on-1, every single day, with many of the world's finest flute performers, teachers, and composers.

NYSMF IFI FACULTY 2009

Six extraordinarily talented musical artists will join you at the NYSMF IFI this summer. All have credentials that circle the globe, from their training on multiple continents to their performances in virtually every major city on the planet. ADVANCED MUSICAL AND PERSONAL GOALS

The goals of the NYSMF IFI will more than challenge even the world's finest young flutists. Successful applicants to the program will enjoy:

  1. Advanced standards and levels of achievement
  2. A wonderful opportunity to work with top international artists from around the world
  3. Daily Private Lessons and Master Classes
  4. Opportunities to perform in NYSMF's regular Ensembles and Classes
  5. Unique cultural and musical exchanges among participating students

HIGHLY LIMITED ENROLLMENT

A maximum of TWENTY TOP FLUTE STUDENTS will be accepted into the NYSMF IFI. There are no age requirements, but students must submit an audition tape to apply for this program.

CHALLENGING DAILY SCHEDULE

Students in the NYSMF IFI will look forward to a highly intense fortnight of musical studies. Among the features offered are:

  • Daily Private Lessons
  • Daily Master Classes
  • Daily Ensemble/Chamber Music Rehearsal
  • Daily Orchestra Rehearsal
  • Performances on the NYSMF Concert Schedule
  • Selected Distinguished Students from the course will have an opportunity to perform with the NYSMF Orchestras
  • Special Performance at the world-renowned Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival
  • Certificate of Achievement signed by the Flute Institute faculty
  • Special Lecture on the topic of "Studying Music Abroad"
    Included in this Special Lecture will be tips on how to prepare for the interviews and general information on opportunities and features of studying abroad.
  • Daily Practical English Classes for International Students

In addition, NYSMF IFI students will have the opportunity to participate in the more than 50 performing ensembles and classes offered daily in the regular NYSMF program. This will help the students to improve their musical spirits in wide range.

TUITION AND FEES

The tuition cost of attending the NYSMF IFI is $1,400 (US), in addition to all regular NYSMF tuition and fees. Tuition includes the following exclusive IFI activities:

  • Six (6) Private Lessons
  • Daily IFI Master Classes & Ensembles
  • Exclusive NYSMF IFI Flute Choir Performances at both NYSMF and the Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival
  • Master Class with Visiting Artist TBA (audition required)
  • Opportunities to participate in all other NYSMF ensembles and classes

  3. Prepare an audition CD:
  • Include two contrasting movements (one slow, one fast) from any standard flute concerto that clearly demonstrates your advanced level of playing. Alternatively, you may use any two contrasting flute pieces.

May 15, 2010 is NYSMF's regular application deadline. Applications received after this date are accepted, but must include all payment in full. Spots in the NYSMF IFI cannot be guaranteed after this date.
